Outside Mister Donut

At 3 AM, the ferry boat arrived at the port of Surigao City. I wanted to stay on my bed until I could see the sun rays from the tarpaulin curtains of the vessel. “In a few minutes, this vessel will leave to Nasipit Agusan,” a woman’s voice said in the intercom. I didn’t have a choice. I had to get off the boat despite the heavy rain beating....

Why Me?

Why me? A question of doubt…
Good morning fellow toastmasters. In front of you is a person full of doubts and questions of life. Why me? Why do I have to go through all those challenges in the past and even in the present?
Sharpening of the diamond, the making of a leader, part of growing up, and so on, these are stories that might answer to my questions. But there are times when all those stories don’t really make sense to me.

Torn Between Two Great Women

I have two Lola’s. Everyone has of course. I always hear from other people that I’ve been their favorite grandson. I do not know if it’s true, though. I thought being a favorite doesn’t mean anything at all. I didn’t feel different. I didn’t have any special treatment compared to my siblings and cousins or so I thought.

Chasing Dreams

I open my eyes and everywhere I see emptiness. I stretch my hands and I feel no walls around me, no floors beneath me. I was nowhere… “Where am I?” I said. Is this heaven? No, heaven should not be filled with soaking darkness….

I thought maybe it was their first time to see a guy on their beach as handsome as me. Ahem. The thought bothered me though. Maybe I had some dirt on my face that made me look ridiculous. Still I continued walking as if I was walking on a delicate floor.

Drama in Beer

It was an awfully dry sunny Sunday. Almost everybody got no work and had no choice but to get wedged in the box-shaped rooms. But when the sun got higher and higher, everyone got out like ants poured with hot water by a human intruder. Being allergic to boredom, each one had his own antidote.

The occupants of room #16 busied themselves to do the laundry though their intention was obviously not much of the laundry itself. There were a couple of ladies wearing something that showed off their delicately semi-porcelain legs. There was even a suspicion that they just took their clean clothes from their closet so that they could have coy chitchats with those girls.

I'm Not a Baby No More

I’m not a baby no more!

I don’t know if I should get flattered or what. People I meet in the jeepneys, on the streets, or anywhere I go to treated me as if I were a high school boy.

Do I look younger than my age or do I just simply have a baby face. Yucks! No…! I can’t accept such foolish assumptions.
